I'm trying to create an in-place mass sweep along reference lines. I've create a non-associated reference point and have hosted profile reference lines to the reference point. So far so good. For some reason, however, Revit is not allowing me to host the reference point to the reference lines I want to use for the sweep lines. I'm hitting my head against a wall because Revit will allow me to do this in just about every case except the one I want! Plus, if I do manage to trick Revit into getting the point to host to the line it doesn't host the profile in the correct orientation and then I have no ability to align or rotate to the desired orientation!!! I don't know why Revit is being so cranky about this! Please let me know if you have any insight into this problem. Thanks so much.

I don't know if this is your problem. Sweep paths must be defined where the sweep can be created. Take this example: The sweep pat is a rectangle. If the profile resides on the outside of the rectangle, every thing works. If the profile is inside of the rectangle, the sweep can not be made because the sweep has to double back on itself.

I'm not sure I'm following you. If I'm understanding you correctly, then the location of the profile in relation to the path is not quite my issue. I've also been able to sweep profiles on the inside "track" of rectangular path before as well without any errors (adaptive components). The problem is that my profile lines, hosted to a reference point, can't be made to have the reference point host to the path lines that I want. Typically the drop down menu that appears where hosting is displayed has the option to "pick..." It is not available for this point. I can use the pick new host from the ribbon and choose the line I want but I'm not able to choose the orientation to plane of the reference line that I want nor can I change the orientation once it at least hosts to the line. This seems very strange. Theoretically one should be able to host one plane of a reference point, in the case, to a plane of a reference line. It seems to defeat the purpose when this can't be acheived, so it's like the logic is broken somewhere. I've also tried loading a separate mass profile into the one I'm creating in the project and Revit still can't figure out the correct plane. I feel like I understand the concepts that are at play here but Revit is not able to follow its own rules for some reason. I'm obviously missing some important order of operation that Revit needs here but I'm out of ideas.

Sorry - I wrote my response wrong. It wasn't just a rectangle. If the turn is too short to allow the full profile, the sweep can not be made.
That may not be your problem. I have had no reson to do adaptive components so I'm not famalier with your process. I hope someone else can help. I can't see how a point can host a profile .... only a plane.

I see. There might be something to the slight turn issue because I do have that condition from where I have the profile and where I want it to go. As far as adaptice components you can use a reference point to host reference lines that act as a profile. It's not a profile in the usual sense that would have to host to planes. The idea is that the point can move with path lines and carry the refernce line "profile" with it when applied to divided surfaces etc. I might be making this too difficult on myself in the end. I wanted to try creating a more traditional sweep in this area instead of the mass geometry. Do you know how I could have a reference plan follow the blue lines from my sketch? I've been tring to create it by orienting elevations and sections to the geometry but the orientation of the plane still ends up being more of a project to specific view rather actually align to the geomtery (this is even when the plane of the geometry is set as the work plane!). Any advice? Thanks so much for your replies!
