can anyone tell me why, when I batch plot a sheet set of 3 floor plan sheets to pdf with the views all using similar view templates and the setup has vector processing - one of the floor plans comes out rasterised?

Have you got all 3 updates installed?

BTW - You show color fill. No matter what your print settings are, solid fill will result in rasterized printing. The cause of your image is not that.

I only have update 2 installed - installing update 3 is proving problematic (it just won't work) but that is a different thread

You are incorrect. Installing all updates may correct your problem. I don't remember what update 3 corrected but all 3 were important for this bad release. 2014 is so much better.....
Si finish the updates. If that doesn't fix your problem then come back with more information. As I said .... all ALL solid colored areas create a rasterized print so tell us more about your problem. Are both of those images from plans that are actually printed at the same scale? Are those Revit elements or an image or CAD? You say similar templates.... change the templates to same and see what happens. Are their any applied filters? What PDF program? Are your drivers updated?

sorry - when i said installing the update just wont work I meant that I cant get the update to install
both the areas are revit elements
the only difference between the two plots is the view template - changing the view templates so both views have the same template makes them print the same but I don't know why one template prints jagged lines and one doesn't.
after a tedious cross referencing process i found out that the issue was caused by one view having ambient shadows switched on causing that view to be rasterised
