I want to put a molding on the interior window sill that looks like the picture below. I tried doing an in-place component but I can't get the wall sweep to have a clean edge like they do when you do a wall sweep (via modify return).

Also when you do a sweep that moves with the rest of the model how do you lock it to a reference plane? It works when you pick lines out of existing elements but doesn't seem to work when I draw a line from scratch. I tried using pins and locks doing that but it keeps on removing constraints.

Create a family (parametric length - face based) that is your sweep with a void extrusion (reverse profile) that cuts each end of your molding.

Thanks for your input, but I am honestly a bit confused.

I was thinking that I create a window sill extrusion and have the molding wrap around it. However I can't change the length of the sill because the edges won't snap to the reference plane.

I said create a family - nothing about doing this in place.  Here is a family I just created and it works.  Modify it as you need.

This is face based so place in your project on the wall face from an elevation or in your window family from interior elevation.
