Hi Sir(s),
Please help me with my sliding door. I'm making one that slides open depending on how much percentage the user wants. My only problem is the louver. I can only make it (door panel) slide open without the louver, but when I place the louver and try to slide it open, a message pops out saying "Can't make the extrusion". I must be missing something here. The problem starts when I edit the extrusion of my door panel and add the void for the louver at the lower part of the panel. Adding the void is successful but when I try to slide it open, I can't seem to find where I missed and what solution to make. Please help me Sir(s).
thanks much.

Hi bigbrother
Is the louvre a seperate family which has been imported into your door family? Or has it been created within the door family via massing/voids?
Is the louvre also aligned with the door panel reference plane?

Hi raja15,
the louver is not a separate family. I made it within the door family by "Sweeping" method both for the louver's frame and the blades. Isn't that just the same when you add a mullion within a window family or maybe a door knob within a door family? What I did was, I editted the extrusion of my door panel and add a void, at the lower part of my door, for my louver. I dimensioned and constrained the left and right sides of the void with the sides of the door panel so that when I change the width of the door, the void size changes too from the center. But with or without the dimension on the void, when I try to slide the door open, it just won't slide. I will slide only for maybe upto 15 percent, but past the boundary of the void, the "Can't make the extrusion" message pops out already. This is even before I make the louver.

Everything you have said about creating your family seems fine, so I'm a bit baffled as to why it is not moving as you said.
How are you "sliding" the door panel?
Is there a parameter you have assigned to the panel which allows it to slide various distances?
Or are you simply using the move tool?

I just had a brainwave, is your louvre set to equal constraints from one of the family reference planes? (refer to attached)

I set a parameter to make the panel slide open via percentage. and i dimensioned and constrained the void from the sides.

The only thing I can think of is to double check that your void is constrained to the "door panel" and not the "door frame"
What I would do to check this is -
- Open front view of the door family
- Open the "door panel" sketch for editing
- Delete the dimensions you have created to constrain the void
- Finish the sketch (รพ)
- "Temporarily hide" ($) the "door frame" in view by element
- Open the "door panel" sketch for editing again.
- Redimension the void to the door panel sketch lines.
- Finish Sketch
- Quickly check that the void moves when you move the door panel by a %
I hope that this fixes your problem, otherwise I'm unfortunately out of ideas
