I am trying to create a circular shaft that cuts through my (basic) walls as well as through all the floors, including the foundation slab.Shafts cut through floors just fine, but walls and foundation slabs are a no-go.Looks at the attached pic: I have multiple "shafts" in that wall, but they're not cutting through either the wall or the foundation-slab. The floor however (20mm thick on top of the slab - yes I know there are better ways to achieve that, but that's not my issue right now) is cut just fine.

Please, does anyone have a clue of what's going on here?

I'm using Revit 2014.

Greatly thankful!

Shaft openings do not cut through walls.

I understand it's not cutting through walls. I'd like to rewrite my question:

How do I get shafts to cut through walls? / How do I achieve the same thing as if a shaft would cut through walls.

Thank you!

You could create a void family with a diameter and length parameters then load that into your project. Make sure to check the cuts with voids when loaded checkbox in the Family Category and Parameters of the family.  If you only have one you could just do an in-place void.

I've figured out two different sort-of-solutions to this problem.

  1. Create an extruded void. (The problem with this is it becomes very problematic to change the location of the void once it's in place. Also, the file becomes exedingly heavy after a while, if you've got a lot of holes in your prefab-walls, as I do).
  2. Create a new detail family, draw your representation of your holes, and place them whereever you like. (The downside of this is since it's a detail you'll have to copy and paste the instances between levels, so it's easier to forget when drawing, unless your copying whole floors ofc. Also, it does not show in 3d of course. Not often a problem since its inside a wall though)

PS.Oh, also: I used a masked region when creating my representation for the hole, to make it look as an actual hole.

DS.

For your vertical holes in walls, why not use a simple, non-cuttable family that is a 2D circle with a vertical 3D invisible line?  It will show up in all plan views where the cut plane intersects the invisible line.

I really don't believe a true model element is required here.
