I imported skp Google workshop files and made them in rfa files to be used in a project I'm working one. I then fixed the rendering of the each component so that when I imported them in my project they would show up in colour. When I open the component s on their own they show up as I want with their colours and rendering but when I put them into my project they show up as grey again. I have tried purging the families and then reloading them and that didn't do anything. I was wondering what is happening. Attached are the families.

You need to look at their materials in the PROJECT and change them to what you want. The project rules. If you have the same material name in the project as you do in the family the family will get the material that is in the project assigned to it.

Thank you. How do I change it so that when I open a project (the one im working on and future ones) and load these families that their individual rendering will transfer over. Some of the objects im using have many textures that I would have to go in and individually change every time for every project.

Remember, materials for sketchup and CAD files are controlled by layer and once loaded, the material is now set in the project.
In the project, look at your manage tab/object styles settings for imported objects.

Give them a unique name in the family

So im looking at my object styles does do i have to redo them in every project? Or is there a setting that i can turn on for imported objects that keeps them with the colour that then have outside of the project. I just wonder because when i load files that are already they are coloured and dont have to be changed.

Read ...."...and once loaded, the material is now set in the project."
I think that is clear.

If the family is not loaded into a model then obviously, the layer setting for the material is not there. ONCE LOADED - it is now set.
So the deduction is, fix the family and load it in a new project and it will be as set in the family. If you want it fixed in your project where it was loaded before fixing, then you have two options:
- Remove the family completely from the project, to make it like a new project, then load the family. Find the family in the project browser - delete it and all instances.
- Fix the layer assignments in the project where I pointed you to earlier.

Thank you for the explanation I have taken a screen shot as you can see I changed all of the imported families to bright colours and only some sections of the components changed. Also some stayed the base grey. I tried both options that you suggested.

Your materials are set to Grey! Look at the attached image.. you need to change the Appearance and Graphics and then once its in your PROJECT make sure that you materials are the same as your family (just double check).

Arch,
I'm sorry but I mislead you. From a new project, you should be OK. But if you loaded the bad family, then the materials as well as the family have to be removed from the project in order for the existing file to work.
Follow tefoe's advice.

I have fixed almost all of the rendering issues I was wondering how i could search for what objects are usings a certain material. As i have taken off all the materials that I imported but one materials stays which means that one of the families is using that material and i need to find out which specific family is using it.
