R2014 here...
Just a question I've never understood the answer to... Why is it that sometimes Revit gives the option to make my roof a truss or rafter and then other times it doesn't???
I've even copied a roof that let's me choose between them and then when I paste it, "rafter" or "truss" is no longer an option. So... what's the deal?

Ah! Thank you... I knew there had to be one simple difference between the way I was creating them. Didn't realize "pick wall" made that difference!

I thought I had seen this property before but I have never set it. So I tried 2012, 2013 and 2014 and it did not show up in any version. Dummy me - I didn't look in the HELP as I tell users to do. Pay attention to the bold:
This property is a switch for the Plate Offset from Base property. If you choose Rafter, the Plate Offset from Base is measured from the inside of the wall. If you choose Truss, the Plate Offset from Base is measured from the outside of the wall. To see the effects of this property more clearly, set a value for Plate Offset from Base other than 0. (See Roof Boundary Line Properties.)
This property only affects roofs created by picking walls.
As soon as you pick one wall for your sketch, the property shows up.
Teafoe beat me.... Glad you asked the question.
