Company is new to revit. We have only a few files but weach ones needs to be individual (ie. no central files). How can I change the files we have to non-central files and all future ones to non-central as well. Can't seem to find an option for that anywhere.

Open it up detached and you will be given the option of preserving worksets. Say NO.

i appreciate the help. very dumb question...how do I open it up detached?

File>Open and check the box on the bottom of the dialog to detache from central
|
