I'm trying to create a wall profile which has a channel that is swept offset from the face of the wall and lies above the top of the wall. When I create my sweeps, the offset distance works just fine, but the channel profile that I want to show up that extends past the top of the wall does not. The sweep instance has the parameter set to offset the profile 1.5" from the top of the wall, but I keep getting the error "cannot creat integral wall sweep...sweep position is outside of it's wall, check parameters" any ideas on how to get this to work?? Thanks in advance.

Don't create it as part of the wall.

I understand that I could create the component by modleing in place, but I'm trying to avoid having random components in the model that have to be movede individually each time the wall is moved. Do you mean to tell me that I am stuck with modeling components in place?? There's got to be a better way, right?!!

Change the origin of your profile. Edit the profile family and move it up above the origin.
