i am trying to replace an elevation tag with a symbol that looks like my section tag (a circle divided in half with the detail number on top, and the sheet number on bottom) with an arrow head that starts at the center point and points at the face being elevated...it is easy enough to create, but i cannot make this new tag the elevation tag.
i have been successful changing other tags by highlighting one, going to properties, edit/new then selecting a different loaded tag. i have not been able to go this route with the elevation tags.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem? i would appreciate all assistance. Thank you

Elevations are system families and as such cannot be altered beyond the parameters that are included in revit.
This has been a wishlist item since version 3....
Hopefully the next release will have this ability.
WORKAROUND:
I've created a new group of sections, called (funnily enough) Elevations.
Then I just use these to be elevations, as i can use any tag i want and if you drag the cut line short enough they look just like elevations in plan.
HTH.

On your workaround: Can you alter the shapes of your section tags? We have a millwork elevation tag that we used to use in CAD that is oval with a single number inside with a solid arrow pointing towards the millwork. It is smaller than the other tags so that we can use it in rooms with clusters of millwork - we tried using the interior elevation tag that Revit provides, but it is so big that we can't fit it in rooms with more than one section of millwork. If you can duplicate and make a custom section tag (to be used for elevations) could you elaborate on how that's done? It would be much appreciated. Thanks!
