I am aware of the standard patterns available in a conceptual mass for creating curtain systems (hexagon, octagon, rectangle, etc.). Is it possible to create a custom pattern, or to modify one of the standard ones? I am trying to make a herringbone pattern usinf Revit 2014. Thanks.

You can make most of patterns with basic patterns in revit.
And when you choose one, shape of mass must be considerd. If the mass has flat facade, basic rectangle pattern will be enough to make what you want.

This is a simplified version of what I'm trying to do. How can I achieve this with a simple rectangular pattern? Thanks.
