Imagining that any firm of a decent size that implements BIM/Revit will use a style guide, how often are they used?

I'm looking at the guide from here: http://seek.autodesk.com/en-us/MarketingSolutionsRevitStyleGuide.htm and thinking it offers a good starting point, we could for example take the list of standard subcategories and where work with that, where we need additional simply add to it to document the office standard as and when we add specific or shared parameters?
