I want to show a painted cmu wall in a rendering... When I paint the color onto the cmu wall, I lose the grout lines. How do I show the wall painted the color I want with the grout lines?

Will the doing this alter the original cmu material? I've noticed that sometimes duplicating and changing one material also effects the parent material. I don't want to muck things up anymore than usual...

You need to use a different block with the color you want. Paint that material.
Sorry Tea - I didn't mean to jump in. Started the post and got distracted before I hit send.

Create a new material for the CMU then you don't need to worry about affecting the original. Use youe HELP file and take a look at creating materials. Depending on what version of Revit you are on some versions are easier than others to use the material editor.
WWHub- No prob!

THank you. I will try it. I've created materials from scratch, just didn't want to unintentionally interupt something that's currently not broken. Also, this forum keeps posting my original reply, don't have a clue as to why it's doing that.

In 13 & 14, you do have to pay attention to assets because they may be used in multiple materials.
