When placing a wall in the options bar the first thing on the left is an indiciator to tell Revit which direction vertically
you want to draw walls in, depth or Height.
For some reason on my new project this option is suddenly denied me and is greyed out. It will only let me draw walls
from "depth" meaning that it will set my base constrait to the level below the one I currently wanted to draw on. I can
not change it back. The program will also not let me change the base constrait to my current level (view I'm in) because
I then get an error about bad constraits because it is conflicting with the options bar setting which is somehow locked.
Why is this option on the options bar suddenly denied to me?! This is super frustrating and confusing.

No, the base constraint is your current level and the bottom offset is a negative number from that level.

You didn't understand my problem.
Revit it setting my base constrait for every wall autmatically to the level below the current level I'm working in.
For example, main floor, revit is setting my wall base constrait to my level below "B.O. Grade Beam"
See the image I attached, for some reason I am no long able to change this setting.
If I want to draw with a base constrait on main floor I have to create a view on the level above, "T.O. wall" and draw down.
It was not like this for my first project.

Did you change the work plane in your plan view?
Is your level created correctly? Not just a copied view with different view range. Plan views are created from the view tab by picking the level.

opps posted the same thing twice
Yes plan views are made by going to the view tab and picking a level. Side note, this does not show my grids though, is that because
I drew my grids first? opps?
Levels are created using the level tool, I didn't make views for most of them automatically because I didn't need them,
not sure if that matters. (It's a single story building)
Not sure what you mean by "Did you change the work plane in your plan view?" Is that possible?
Thanks

I have no problems with this in several different revit issues so it works. Your problem could be your methods, a corrupt program or you have not installed all of your updates.
Revit 2014 - Update1
If your plan view doesn't show your grids then where did you draw them? The default Revit always starts with two levels.
Your problem is probably that you started with the wall "depth" and drew one wall already. Since you have "chain" checked, you can't change depth until you restart the process.

I'm using Revit Lt 2013, just updated it, no dice.
It's a fresh install on a new comp last week, unless my disk is corrupted, I doubt it
I'm guessing its my methods, I did not start with the Autodesk template, it was my own template, actually my last project
saved as a template.
Started with one level, Main floor. Drew my grids there, added levels,The first level I added was the base of my grade beam
so it was below main floor. Build some walls down to represent grade beams. Unless this set a preference some how.
Currently my grids don't show on other levels unless I play with the view range.
The level below main only shows some of the grids, not all. I guess I'm suppose to have all
my level first? Before I draw any grids? Hard to know exactly what I need in the beginning for levels.

Your grid problem is a process problem. Go to an elevation view and drag your grids up so they intersect your levels. (3D - not 2D).
2013 had 3 updates so I expect LT to have some as well. You should always check for latest updates. Installing it doesn't mean you have the updates. They are additional to the install.

Yeah your right with the grids, was not aware it effected more then elvations. Thanks
I'm aware of the update procress, only found one update for LT vs three for full version.I just installed the update as I mentioned.
I'm really starting to believe Autodesk when gutting the full version to make LT messed up the code. I'm coming
across way too many glitches that others have never seen before, and scratch their heads. Its like WTF?!
Fun fun.

I just had the same issue! Depth greyed out while everything I was doing on the main floor was getting stuck at foundation depth. My problem was I took a 12" foundation wall, duplicated it, made it a main floor wall since I wanted the concrete as a core. The problem was in the wall properties that the function was still set as foundation.

Hello Klundin
Yeah you are right it was a wall property set to foundation. I realized this after and didn't update the thread. Thanks for clarifiying this. I think I did something similar with duplicating a wall and I was not aware of its properties. Ah the joys of being a nob newbie eh!
