Is it possible to add attributes to families/components in Revit. I am consulting with a firm who is considering making the change to Revit that mainly deals in equipment layouts for big box stores, manufacturing, restaurants, supermarkets, etc. Sometimes the same piece of equipment is needed in two different departments and need to be reflected as such in the purchasing/equipment schedule provided to the client. For example, a 48"w x 18"d x 60"h shelving rack may vbe in both the seafood and produce area of a supermarket and needs to be shown as such on a purchasing/equipment schedule. I know that AutoCAD has these capabilities using blocks, attributes and extractions. Every time the block is loaded into the project a dialogue box appears allowing the user to insert the necessary information. Does Revit have any way of doing this? I have looked into shared properties as a solution, but I am very new to that are of Revit and it seems a bit cumbersome. PLEASE HELP!!!
Thanks!

Shared parameters are one of the true powers of Revit. They can be type based (all instances the same) or instance based, they can be scheduled, they can be tagged and they can just be data or they can control the famill parametrically. (ie - length).
In Revit, you can also apply schedule defined parameters that are created at the project level and are shown in the schedule.
I suggest you get a good Revit book then download Revit to try some of this out.

All of these seem to be pretty good.
