I have been working on a project of considerable size which has three linked files which make up the proposed building.
Each of these files represent different wings which will be built at different times during the course of the project.
On two of the files Room tags are visible however on the third linked file they are not and I cannot figure out why as there is no difference in the setting between the three linked files.
I have been through numerous threads and seen that people have been having the same problem, there solution has been to go into the visibility settings/display settings and changing it to 'by linkd view' or even 'custom' and turning everything off aprt from room tags. When changing it to 'by linked view' the room tags appear however the annotation scale is all wrong etc snf when changed to 'custom' nothing appears.
I wonder if anyone has any idea why they would be different, or any other solution as to how to solve this?

There is something different but only you can find it.
Are you sure the room tags you see are in the linked file and not your file?
The only way linked file tags will show is if the file is linked by view in that view.

Did you link by view?
Please read your HELP section:

Hi guys, quick one. Have you tried selecting the model in plan view and in the properties panel click edit and then make sure the 'Room Bounding' is ticked. Give it a try and see if that works.

SORRY I SHOULD HAVE EXPLAINED MYSELF BETTER. WE KNOW HOW TO USE LINKED VIEW. HOWEVER, WE WERE WONDERING IF THERE WAS ANOTHER WAY TO ACHIEVE THIS WITHOUT USING LINKED VIEW IN VISIBILITY GRAPHICS. WE HAVE A PRINTING TEMPLATE FOR THE PLANS AND A PRINTING TEMPLATE FOR THE SECTIONS/ELEVATIONS AND WE DONT WANT TO HAVE TO HAVE A SEPERATE PRINTING TEMPLATE FOR EACH VIEW.
IT IS SIMPLY A MATTER OF ADDING ANNOTATION, TEXT AND DETAIL LINES TO THE LINKED MODEL IN THE MAIN PROJECT OR IS THERE ANOTHER WAY?

As andygleach suggests, you can set the linked model to room bounding then add your rooms and tags in the host model.

This is why we don't link files that have elements we want to schedule or tag. Keep it all in one file and use worksets to manage the size.

I know this thread is old but one thing that i haven't seen many touch on is to verify that the phasing of your project matches that of the linked file. To do this you will want to open up the linked file. Once the linked file has opened, TAB around the corner of a room until the Room Boundary is highlighted. Once the room is highlighted, take a peek at the Properties palette under "Phasing" (I have attached an image that shows that when this room was created, it was created under Phase I). Switch back over to your local file thats giving you all the issues and open the template applied to the sheet (with no template, enter VV or VG). You will want to open the "Revit Links" tab, then under "display settings", verify that the "Phase" in your project, matches the phase that the rooms were created in (I have attached a second image showing that while the phasing of the linked file is "by host view", the phase differs from that of when the rooms were created. Click on the "Custom" bubble and then make the Phase match when the rooms were created, in this instance, Phase I. You should now be able to Tag All rooms. Hope this helps anyone who happens to run across this issue after trying all the other possible solutiotions!
