In revit 2013 I have duplicated a view and when I open the newly duplicated view a couple of the gridlines do not appear. I have checked the 3D extents of the gridline in an elevation view and it seems that the gridline is well below and above the view (level) in question.

It shows up in the view you duplicated from but not in the duplicated view? Are you sure it is an actual grid line and not just a dummy detail component? If you duplicate a view with detailing it will bring everything including annotation in, try that option also and see what happens.

If you duplicate without detailing, 2D grid modifications don't duplicate. Look again - 2D grid modifications are view dependent.
