This is the same issue as earilier versions, maybe it's me or not. I have a project open and have inserted something from a family like a solar panel. I want all the panels to have the same color/materials, so I open the panel family and assign the stuff, load it into the project and save it. It doesn't load it into the project. Open up the family object I just applied color/material in and check it, it doesn't save it. Is this a bug? Also for instance when I hit the paint button in a project it shows the icons with the applied materials, right, yet when I do that in a family the pictures are all just grey (blank), and that the applied stuff in a project isn't the same as in the family. A bug? Also In a project it wont let my apply paint to some objects.. any help would be great.

You don't paint a material in a family you actually add a material.  Once you add a material in your family say Solar Panel-Black save and then insert the family into your project and the material will go with it.  If you use a generic material in the family like "default" and insert it into the project where "default" material already exists and is a different color the PROJECT RULES and the material of the family will change to the project "default.

Hmmm.. not quite sure there. Okay I have a solar panel, I go to edit family, then click on the panel, in properties I have materials and finishes, I click on materials, the material browser opens yet all the icons are just grey, I click on my "solar panel" icon, in graphics I have a blue color, I go to appearance, it has a standard grey color, I change it to blue, cleck reflectivity, okay I like it, back to graphics, I check use render appearance,  then I hit apply and close, it looks good! Then I load it back in the project, save and close it but it doesn't change in the project. So I go back to edit family, open it and it doesn't save what I just did! Sad

I think I got it, yet it's strange so I had to actually change it in the project as well for it to work,
