I've got a project with five linked files that I need to remove(delete) but I get the error "Can't edit the element.  It was deleted in the Central Model."

FYI, this is a project that I updated from 2012 to 2013, if that matters.

Does anyone know how I can remove these links?

Did you sync with central?  ... you don't just click on the link and delete it.  Use the manage links.

I am using the manage links function, and I did click sync first, but I don't recall what the outcome was, and at the moment I'm twiddling my thumbs waiting for the project to open again.

Hard to give you an answer if you can't tell us the outcome of your attempts.  Let us know what happens when you sync, if the item was removed in the central file you obviously cannot remove it twice because its not there.
