Here's my problem:
I have a Kohler sink that I'm trying to insert into my project but unlike other families this one requires me to select
from the PLACEMENT bar. Either Place on veritcal face/on place/or work plane.
Why?
How can I change it?
Also, when I insert it under work plane the elevation height is set to 0'-0" and I can't change it in the properties...it's greyed out.
I'm attaching a few pix.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

i'm not sure without the family, but i guess because it's face based family. and you placed it at a level, not sink plate.
place a plate for sink and place the family on it, or chane the host using 'Pick New' menu.
