Hi,
I am a Revit Newbie.
As a supplier of elevators and escalators, we place our installations as families in 'empty' RVT files and link them to our customer's central model. In general, our customers don't work with a central server, but opt to receive RVT files, which they link to their central model. This means that our RVT models need to have the correct Project Base Point, so they can be linked with the correct position within the building, by using the option of positioning 'Auto - Origin to Origin'.
Until now, we have used a template, which is an 'empty' RVT file, with the project specific Grid lines, floor elevations, Project Base Point and Survey Point. In this file, we place our RFA with their position relative to the Grid lines and floor elevations.
We are wondering if there is another way. We would like to be able to place our RFA in a copy of the central model (which we receive from our customer), and position them within the building. After we are done, we would like to extract/save a RVT model with the correct Project Base Point, so it can be linked to the customer's central model. This would eliminate the need of a template and working in a separate file.
Can anyone help me?
Regards,
Olaf.

Is it your intent to provide them with a .rvt file with the .rfa already placed in the correct position? If so, then I would do this:
Start your project as you normally do.
Link in the architect's model using Origin to Origin.
Do your work as you normally would, placing your equipment where it needs to be.
Send your .rvt file to the architect, when they link it in using Origin to Origin your equipment should end up in the correct position in their model.
If you want to just send the families without a model things are a little trickier, but it can still be done.
