I'm trying to import a file from AutoCAD which is working fine but when I try to explode the file it gets converted into a bunch of 2D lines. How do explode the 3D file without this happening?

Never explode a CAD file in Revit. May I ask why do you want to explode that file?

You can't get 3D surfaces from an exploded 3D CAD. - Sorry.
