Has anyone encountered this problem before where I have placed a few steel members in a new project, however whatever members I use I am unable to edit the original family. See image attached. It just give sme the option to "load family" which when you select doesn't work. I am trying to open the family to delete the cut-back that is set by default.

if you can browse your family and right click and edit it then it should be a revit ribbon issue
i think try to search relative hot fix/patch for RA2012 for this ribbon issue. try to search on your Subricption.
