I am trying to layout my detail sheets and would like to know if there is a way to have the guide grids NOT be square e.g. 6"x6". my detail layout height is different than the width for each detail e.g. 4 1/2"x6"

Guide grids can only be square. You could set up a grid in your titleblock family with invisible lines to the size you want.
