Is it possible to have a formula that reports a dimension value in a text string? I'm trying to have a scaleable counter report the dimension in inches within the tag. So a 5'-0" counter would read XX-YY-60. Obviously the 5'-0" would already be a parameter noted as "Width".

Ex:

Parameter: ID-Tag

Value: XX-YY-(Formula Result)

Formula: "XX-YY-" plus the (Width) in inches

*Currently using 2011 through 2013. Because clients hate change.

**oh man first post ever! ...I think.

You can not have a formula in a Tag ....yet.

Consider it less in the tag, more as a paramater. The Tag only need report a value(and yes the value can be a result of a formula). The question is more along the lines of: can you convert feet to inches and can you add this value to a text string?

I know I can just take the value 5'-0" and divide by 1" to get the value 60 as a work around, but I still don't know if I can add this to a text string. to provide the aforementioned case XX-YY-60

There are no text string manipulations in Revit.  You can have a value that is in inches.

as far as i understand your question, heres my suggestion

in your counter family you should have parameters:

W(feet) = value <---- assigned to the actual dimension

W(inches) = W(feet)/12 <---- this should be a shared parameter so you can tag

in your annotation tag family:

"XX-YY-" <--- should be a text ,

and next to it is the LABEL "W(inches)" <--- this should be a label and from the shared parameter

Awesome, yea, I was wondering if that would be an ideal work around. I was also considering a long nested If/Then formula for select dimensions, although that may get too long

Thanks!
