hi all,

does anyone know how to create a model line between two different reference planes.  trying to create a rail section between two sagging cables that come to a corner column.  i can't get the rail section (model line) to go between the two cables as they are in two different planes.  thanks for any input.

I don't know how to get a tanget arc ... that would take a little more work ... but here is what I accomplished.  Grid is only there so you can see it is 3D.

  1. In plan, I created a horizontal ref plane and named it.
  2. In an elevation looking at that plane, I set that as my work plane and added a 'sagged' arc.
  3. I repeated the above two with another plane to get the second line.
  4. I pulled back by arcs so there was an end to each where I wanted to connect.  (If you need the full arc, you can pull it back later)
  5. In plan, I added a new ref plane that ran from end of arc to end of arc and named that x (second image)
  6. I went to an elevation, set x as my work plane and added a straight model line from end of arc to end of arc
  7. Finally, I added my joining arc.

You could add another work plane for the final arc.

I followed you through step 6......

but can't recreate step 7.  when i go to create a joining arc it is in the plane perpendicular to the straight line that joins the 2 sagging cables.  not in the same plane as the straight line that joins the cable ends.  see attached jpg

    thanks.

Sorry - I missed a step.  Ignore my "You could add another work plane for the final arc."... You have to do that!

I created yet another reference plane (named it) from the elevation in step 6 that went from endpoint to endpoint.  This is the plane you use from plan view to do the arc there....you have to set it as your work plane in the plan view.
