Does anyone have a clean and simple way of doing architectural programming in REVIT?

For example NCARB has a Schematic Design Practice Software to allow space programming to test the knowledge of an candidate testign for the Scematic Design portion of the ARE.

It has a pulldown menu to place each room with dimensions and square footages that flex and change to place the space as per the spacial requirmenst outlined by the client.

And yes I have heard about using MASS in REVIT but it is all cryptic and convoluted for programming. Additionaly one cannot label the space to see what MASS one is placing or manipulating. Lastly an architect or designer does not have time to play geek in customizing REVIT when the clock is ticking.

So anyone outhere can shed some light into this?

Thank You

Use the Room Seperation tool to create spaces using line work and not walls. You tag them with areas and schedule them. They can be re sized by grip editing and the like.

Perfect! I have tried it and it fulfills the programming. I have tagged them and defined the "Area boundary" using the area boundary command in the Room&Area ribbon menu. Now when I go to the project browser to create a schedule and right click and use NEW SCHEDULE I select Area, Name and Number (room num) and the resulting schedule is empty?

It appeasr that all areas are tagged and named but I cannot get the data into a schedule. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Ok. I got the schedule to work. But now my question is how can I make a schedule that would allow one to manually adjust the square footage to yield a size of room based on that square footage inputs directly into the schedule?

Right now the ROOM SCHEDULE built in REVIT does not allow editing to take place on the square footage column only the room name and number....Any Sugestions............Thanks!

As per the statement in your first post "Lastly an architect or designer does not have time to play geek in customizing REVIT when the clock is ticking."  I don't think what you want is possible without some geek playing. I don't know, maybe someone else can shed some light on the subject.

Square footage is a product of at least two numbers, length x width.  (Obviously more complex shapes are more numbers)  So how do you expect to drive shape by a product?  I don't see any way to do this and I doubt that it would be useful anyway without some other rules.
