This picture shows what im trying to model.

its a ceiling with a piece of trim at the top edge. I want to build ceilings. with that trim...what should I do, other than creating an inplace model? is there a sweep / ceiling thing for ths?

That looks like wall sweep to me.

you mean instead of building a ceiling thats 9" thick, resting it on the top of the walls then creating a sweep for the ceilings top edge?

I guess I can set the ceiling into the perimeter edge of the wall...or maybe raise up the sweep y-axis 9" above top of wall...

went with an inplace component, chose the "wall" type, and just applied it the the ceiling edge...not the nicest, but easy and clean. and will cut...

I would not add the sweep in the wall type but you can if that works best for you.  Sweeps in wall types show up in plan views and can not be turned off.

I would have the wall run past the ceiling.  If you don't then you will have a line you have to deal with.
