I have a plan with a section view referenced. this section view is on a section drawing. is it possible to change the drawing number on the section reference on the section sheet to send you back to the plan. Right now the dwg number on the section is the section dwg number.

Did you read what you wrote? Does that make sense to you?
"I have a plan with a section view referenced" << Should this be: I have a plan with a section cut?
"...this section view is on a section drawing..." << Is this: the view is on a section sheet?
"...is it possible to change the drawing number on the section reference on the section sheet.." <<Don't you mean: can I change the View Title to show the sheet the view was cut on?
^^^ Yes, edit your view title family changing that area to the property you want
"Right now the dwg number on the section is the section dwg number." << Should this be: Right now the view title shows the drawing sheet number?

If i change the family to the property that i want, will that also not change all the details the same way and not just the instance.

You are using confusing terminology. You can have all sorts of different annotations in a project. For section references, elevation references, view titles you can create multiple types that look different and use different values. Using one doesn't change any of the others.
If you have the standard view title, pick it and then pick edit type. You will see the family name under title. The pulldown on the right will show you other options if you have any. You can find all of these in your project browser under annotation symbols.
- Find the one you are using, right click and select edit.
- The bottom number in the bubble is the sheet shown on. Click on that and under properties / label, select edit
- You will see on the right it says sheet number.
- Click on the sheet number then select the red arrow to remove it.
- Now find referencing sheet on the left.
- Click on it and pick the green arrow.
- Say OK
Save the family with a different name.
On the menu bar pick load into project. Then close that family.
Now, in the project, from a sheeted view, click on a standard view title, pick it and then pick edit type. Create a new type and point to this new title family. This View Title is now available for you use.
