Hey guys, thanks for having me here!

I'm currently a very beginner 2013 Revit user in an ID dept.

The project is together with the archi dept and we are using the same model file. And yes, we do have our own local files.

So, the problem comes in when I'm trying to do a masking region in a nested family with all plans and elevations drawn in symbolic lines.

It consists of a throw pillow loaded into a sofa, which is then loaded into a nested family. The sofa's seat is at a level of 375mm. Another table loaded into this nest family stands at a level of 525mm, with a small area overlapping the sofa. I did a masking region over the boundaries of both the sofa and table. Thus, there will be an overlapping of masking regions. However, I couldn't get the overlapped part to be covered. The ref plane set for both elements have been set by their respective heights.

Once done, the whole nested family is loaded into the project, but the overlapping part is still not masked.

I've included a sample image and hope you guys understood what i've explained. If not, please feel free to let me know Smile

I've read this thread through and I seem to be having the same problem as thread starter. However, my sofa and table are made up entirely up of symbolic lines, even elevations.

I found the thread : http://www.revitcity.com/forums.php?action=viewthread&thread_id=27507

Quote from WWHub,"Remember - you are using 2D elements but you are wanting it to act like 3D.  Very hard to do sometimes and this is one of those times.  When we have tops like this that may need to cover other 2D objects, we will ad a thin 3D extrusion that is only visible in plan views and is at the correct elevation in the family."

Yes, this solution works one way. However, I would like to make it such that there's absolutely 0 3D in the file.

Quote from WWHub,"Create a family with just the table masking region. Load that into your table family and set its offset (it will now show up in the family editor) to the correct elevation.

Your family will now work correctly."

Tried this, but won't my table family move upwards? This will reflect in my elevations argh.

I don't understand why you absolutly don't want any 3D in your family.  My answers were to a specific problem.  I don't have time to test any answers I may give you.

Try planning on your family being inserted at a higher elevation -in other words - draw your 2D elevations at an appropriate place.  << Obviously not good answers.  Better of to use model based solutions when needed.

Or better yet ... no need for masking - just draw it correctly with the inserted family there.

Its a directive from the company that we model in 2D rather than 3D.

Through trial and error yesterday, I found a weird solution. I placed the masking region of the table on ref. plane about 200mm above the sofa. It works correctly when I load them into the nested family. Somehow, if i lower it to anything below the 200mm. it will be incorrect. This is strange! I'll go for this solution as of now, perhaps someone can offer an insight to this.
