hi 

i want to create a timber slat wall to go on the out side of a building. is it possible to create a crutian wall to get what i want if so any good links

Use a good texture to create that effect, also, you have that kind of texture / material in your materials tab.

Not sure what you mean by timber slat wall.  Most walls, even walls that have surfaces like metal siding, are best done by using materials and not modeling the physical shape.  If the surface has voids all the way through it,  I would still probably use a wall with in-place void areas. 

 

There are times where if it is not a wall, there are other options.  Like the image attached where I used a railing to create a fence.  Much better than a curtain wall for this image.

Yes a railing is your best option for this.  Just create the profiles you want for your "rails" and create a balluster the size you need it to be.
