Hi,
I am wondering how you could apply material to the trusses after you loaded the family? There isn't an option for the material under "Edit Type" so I am stuck to it's original material. If you know how to, please let me know!

Double check please, you must have a mat. parameter in "Instance or Type"

You have to actually ADD a material parameter to the extrustions in the family then you will get an option in your project to change the material.

1. Open the family
2. Create a new instance parameter called 'Truss material' and set it to type 'Material'.
3. Click on the truss geometery (each part).
4. On the properties palette find the Material field and click the little tiny button on the right hand side of the editable field.
5. Set it to the parameter from step 2.
6. Save
7. Load to project
8. Over write
9. Click on truss and click the Truss Material parameter you made and set it to the material of choice.
I think should do it.

Maybe my response is a little too late; but it might just help someone. You can apply materials to separate members without having to edit the family.
1. hover over the member in a 3d, elevation or section view
2. Press tab, you should be able to select a single element.
3. Edit its material properties.
I hope this saves someone's time!
