I am doing an RCP and I've placed heavy timber beams. However, it seems no matter what I try, I can't get rid of some heavy lines down the center of the beam. Any suggestions? I am a relatively new user.
Thanks, Deb

Check the view's detail settings - Coarse/Medium/Fine - This will effect the way structural members are displayed.

Thank you both for replying. I used the "Timber" beams. It did go away when I made the view medium (as apposed to coarse - thank you! Now, however, my TJI beams show up as parallel lines instead of the dashed lines I'd made them. It is definitey the lesser of the two problems, but now, is there a way to make the TJI's show up as single lines? Also, is there a way to render a wood grain pattern on the timber beams?
Thanks,
Deb

What you're trying to do is show one set of beams at Medium and the other at Coarse. As they are in the same catagory, Visibility settings alone wont help you... There are various work-arounds, but you could try playing with either the Linework tool and/or Detail Lines, ie locking Detail Lines to the beams then turning off the Structural Framing vis. or use Linework>invisible lines to get rid of unwanted lines (time consuming if you have plenty of views).
As for rendering beams with a timber grain, there should be a material parameter in the beam's properties (if not, got to Settings>Object Styles) and assign an appropriate texture from the library.

You could save one type of beam as a new type and edit the family to change the view settings of that part of the component that you don't want to see, so they will both appear as you want in course/medium/fine view setting.

Thank you very much for the suggestion. What I ended up doing was going into "Coarse" view, and then using the Line Editor to select each of my TJI's as "overhead". The solid lines became dash-dot and when I went back into "Medium" view, the TJI's were also dashed. That got me cloe enough - Thanks to you all.
