Hi all,I have created a schedule of some parameters of a custom family that I made. Among those are Length and Width. Instead of creating a field for Area, which gives me the total surface area of my object, I just want the Width X Length. I attempted to create a Calculated Value, which was Width*Length, but I get this error: "The following is not a valid schedule field: Width", even though I selected it from the list of available fields by clicking on the box with 3 dots. Anyone come across this, or know a workaround? Does it have something to do with it being a shared parameter from the family I created? Thanks,JP

We have no knowledge of what your parameters are. You created them so tell us more:
Be careful - The term width is available in many different families. Shared parameters can have the same name but be from different shared parameter files - therefore they are not the same. THE NAME DOESN'T MEAN A LOT. << I should have said the name doesn't mean width is width.

Screenshot of schedule attached.
These are Instance parameters from a custom family, that come from shared parameter Width-Shared and Length-Shared. I also discovered I cannot select Calculate toatsl under Formatting - related?
Thanks.

I actually found the solution.
Looks like having a dash in the parameter name was making Revit think of subtraction. Fixed it and everything is working well now. Still can't calculate totals, but I can live with that.

I really do not know what you are doing because you don't supply enough information. Here is a simple family and the resulting schedule that works. I did it in 12.

I created a simple family, which is just a rectangular extrusion. There are several types, each with a different material. The height property is set by type, the length and width by instance. I wanted those dimensions to be scheduleable, so when I made a composition like the attached, it would be simple to schedule each piece, listing length and width. That way I can simplify fabrication. In order to make the instance parameters report, I had to also define a shared paramter (Width Shared, Length Shared) that equaled the initial Width and Length instance properties. I also wanted to use the area to do a quick takeoff so I knew how much material to buy, but using an Area field gave me all the surface area, not just L X W. So I wanted to use the schedule to multiply my Width Shared field by the Length Shared, giving me the area.
