scenario:
- I am given a project file (OTHER) from a client
- I will link OTHER into my file (HOME)
- my job is to populate the walls of OTHER with studs using a revit add-in (Metal Wood Framer)
- basically, HOME will have the studs that belong in OTHER and when the two files are combined there should be no clashes
can i work on individual parts of the linked OTHER, or will my only option be to do all of my work directly on OTHER and not link it?

A link is a link - you can not edit a link, you can only edit the file you are working in.
