I took lighting families from one project and used them in another, but I get the error, "Can't use this type in this host" when I try to replace them. I'm working in 2013. Any idea why? the family hasn't been altered from one project to the other.

It may depend on how the family was made and the template it used which determines how it can be hosted. Open the family in the editor and click on the Family Catergory and Parameters button and go the bottom and scroll. See image.

Also as you place the light note the placement options. See image.
