Kind of embarassed to ask because I'm sure this is very basic but I'm newish to Revit. I'm creating a two story house and when I click on the second level to draw the second level I can't see anything I've drawn on the first level. I tried to draw the second level walls from the site plan view just to see what would happen. I can put up the walls and see it in 3D and site plan but when I go to second level view I can't edit it or insert doors or windows. I think I have to set the view or something??? Also, in 3D the second story looks transparent. My settings must be off? Any help is really appreciated. Thanks!

Im a little confused.. you are trying to draw your second level walls but want to see the first floor? In your properties turn on your UNDERLAY to first floor.
"I can put up the walls and see it in 3D and site plan but when I go to second level view I can't edit it or insert doors or windows" Maybe its just me but this post isnt very clear. You can put up what walls and see what in 3D, your second level walls? So when you go to your second level you can't see your second level walls after you have drawn them?

Goto an elevation view and make sure your level is where you want it to be. I would assume that your exterior walls go past the second level to the roof. Correct?

I had to adjust the constraints because the second story walls were above the roof. I'm attaching pictures so hopefully that helps. I'm not good at describing it. In the 3D picture you'll notice all the doors are grayed out. In the 3D interior picture you can see the 1st level but the second level is all gray. And maybe the elevation view will help also. Thank you so much for any recommendations!! BTW I'm using Revit 2013.

Are you playing around with phases or design options?
Draw the second floor from the second floor plan - not the site.

I deleted the 2nd level that I drew in the site plan view. This brings me back to my original problem: When I open Level 2 I cannot see what I have drawn on Level one. So, I don't know how to get the 1st and 2nd story walls to align. Or am I not supposed to be able to see the first level in the second level? I'm attaching a picture of what I see when I open the second level view. Its just blank.

I drew 4 walls on the second level view and its not visible. I've attached the picture of what I see. There is one line from one wall that is visible in the picture I attached and the others are only visible if I select them. I also attached the 3D view of the four walls that I drew to give an understanding of what you should be able to see. Please note that the walls on the second level in 3D view are grayed out and transparent.

It looks like you have some fundamental problems. How did you create your second level view? The proper process is to click on the view tab and pick floor plan then select your level. If you already have a scond floor plan, you will have to uncheck the do not duplicate box.
If your exterior walls (and or interior) go past the second floor level, they will show up. If they don't, then are you looking in the right place. Type ZE (zoom extends).
If you want to see the first floor walls on the second floor plan, you can change your view range and set your floor to transparent - or better - set the first floor as your underlay.

Just noticed the phase created was set to B10 - Superstructure. I changed them to Project Completed. I'm not sure how they got set to B10. The walls are no longer transparent in 3D but I still can't view them from the second level.

I think you need to spend some time reading up on how phasing is used. You shouldn't have your plan set to project complete because well you are still doing it so it is not complete. Existing should be drawn on existing phase, new phase on new phase, etc. What is your phase set to on your second floor? Did you try all of the things myself and WWHub suggested with using the first floor as the underlay?

Changed the underlay to 1st level! Yay, now I can see it. I still can't change the visual style. Its stuck on hidden line and the options are grayed out. I normally like to work in realistic visual style. I've never had to change those setting before, so I'm not sure how they got messed up. Really appreciate the suggestions!!!

You may have a view template assigned to the view, you will need to change it there.

Thank you both for the help! Any recommended reading material? I took a class on Revit back in 2009 and my employer wants me to use Revit now....so I'm very rusty and wasn't experienced to begin with. I think he imagines Revit as being some type of Paint for Architecture.

Maybe he needs to read up on Revit a bit then haha. I would read the Mastering Revit Architecture books. Cadclips.com has great tutorials to get you started and some advanced ones as well.
