I imported some 3D cad furniture objects into Revit 2013. They came in as 3D objects, but the surfaces are all faceted.

You Can't, you have to do that in CAD and not Revit.

Faceting is a problem in non-rendered views.  For items like that, we use 2 1/2D families.  The 3D only shows up in 3D views, for plans and elevations, the family has symbollic linework.
