is there any way i can creat a family for example, and then move it it more than one direction? I'm trying to model rafters of a gable roof and every time I create the family and then try to copy the rafters back, It only lets me move the member in one direction. even if i change my workplane. the only way i've been able to copy a rafter back is to copy it in place, and then change the depth several times, slowly adjusting it into position. there's got to be a way to adjust things without being so constrained by the workplanes. any help?

Create them as external families instead of in-place. That way the workplane will move where you want to...
