So I'm working on a rather large project where I have a shell architect who's provided thier model as a link to our "interior" model. I need to apply finishes to the model and can't quite figure out the best way to apply the finishes to the linked elements. For instance, exterior walls, restroom bays, stair towers, etc. Is it possible to "paint" these items? A work around that I hate with a passion is to "Copy/Monitor" these items into our model. But, then I have overlapping information and I'm required to isolate all the linked items to a workset for visibility managment. Aside from giving these finishes to the shell architect to have them place in their model, I'm out of ideas.
Regards,

You cannot override the materials in the host project unless you physically update the linked file material. Giving the material to the "shell architect" or copy/monitor are your best options.
