Hello Revitiers,
I just have a quick question to see how other's migh handle a certain situation. We have a client that we have been working with for many years now. We've built a strong autocad background base with them and we are now starting to make the switch from Autocad to Revit, pretty simple right??? Well, this client has had mulitiple additions done to their building structure, and 50 years ago didn't really have a standardized way of calling out their columns. So, some column grid lines have more than one call out based on what addition your in. So the problem I'm running into is that some grids have the same number and Revit doesn't like there being duplicates. Yet I still need to be able to show grid line 1 in let's say the 1950 addition as well as grid line 1 in the 1960 addition. Has anyone found away around this? Or a work around? Thanks for your help.
Jenna.

There is not a way to have multiple grids the same such as two A grids. I don't know what the building looks like but could you do it in sections as the additions were done? So you would have say 3 different projects for example all linked into the final project, each project could have its own grid system.

I would use a building prefix like Bldg A is A-A, A-B etc, Bldge B is B-A, B-B etc. or a number prefix. But each must be unique.

Thank you guys for you're input. We have done seperate models for each addition for other projects like hospitals and stuff like that. However, with this industrial client I think what we have decided to do to get around the issue with the gridlines is we are going to create seperate models for each addition that is going to house only the gridlines. Keep the modeling of the building in (1) file and just link in what grids will be needed for each project.
Thanks.

Be aware that items like columns will no longer be associated with the grid.
