I just started with Revit 2013 and have had this problem in almost all projects I have done so far and cannot figure out why it is. I changed the visibility of the floors so that when i first draw a floor (the first thing I do) I can actually see the floor on my Level 1. The walls by default are always visible on my level 1 but then when i copy and paste the first floor to my second, it isn't visible on my second floor but is visible on my first. I also cannot see my walls if i make them on my second floor. Even stranger, my grid lines show up on level 1 and 2 fine but on level 3 only the vertical lines show up. I am sure this is a simple problem but changing the visibility and making sure the underlays are set to the floor below has not yeilded any results. If anyone can help I'd greatly appreciate it.

"I changed the visibility of the floors so that when i first draw a floor (the first thing I do) I can actually see the floor on my Level 1"
You change the visablility how? If you draw the floor and the floor material applied to it has a fill pattern associated with it there shouldn't be anything you need to change.
How are you copying and pasting your floors and walls? You can select all of the floors and walls, copy then go to the second floor and paste aligned to either selected floors or current view and they should go right in.
Are you getting any warnings when you copy the floor and walls? Do they actually show up? Go to a 3D view or section view to verify they are actually here.
Is your view range set up correctly? It sounds to me like this is a process error and not really a Revit error.
"my grid lines show up on level 1 and 2 fine but on level 3 only the vertical lines show up."
What do you mean only the vertical lines show up? I think you need to post some inages of this problem. Unless you have hidden some grids there isn't a way to show some but not others. Do you have different grid types? Are you using phasing?

Thanks for the response. For some reason when I draw a floor it will not be shown in my level 1 view unless i go to view> visibility and graphics > and overide floors being invisible (which seems weird because I would want to see my floors if i was designing a building) They do show up in a 3D view however. The only reason this annoys me is because I am designing a building in which the first floor is different then the next and i need to know where the first floor ends but cannot do so unless i remember the gridlines and measurements and then redo the drawing on my second level. Possibly this is how the program is supposed to work and i can work with it but its a little annoying after a while. I've worked extensively in SolidWorks and Rhino3D and you can use previous sketches or existing features as construction geometry. I've copied the floors using the paste aligned feature and even still the only thing i can see in my level 2 view is my grind lines. I did however manage to figure out why my gridlines were not appearing (didn't adjust them in the North view ). I've also had problems joining columns to the floor as they still show through the top of whatever floor i attach them to. The only way I've been able to work around this is by making another level just below the bottom of say my level two and setting the top constraint as that level which again is tedious. I'll attach some photos and thanks for the help!

You are in "Level 2" and you want to see "Level 1" correct?
In your level 2 plan view look at "PROPERTIES" tab here you have a "UNDERLAY" parameter, change that to "LEVEL 1"

Attach a file of your project if you can for us to take a look at the problem.. you can strip it down and purge unused etc.

Thank you so much I was wondering what people meant when they were talking about phases! Any idea why columns are not joining to the floor properly?

Because you have to attach the columns to the floor.
