Hi all - searched for a while on this issue and couldn't find a clear response. Any help would be great!
I want my electrical componenet symbols to appear on my RCP instead of my plan. I can not find any parameter for ref plane or symbol height in either type or family properties... in fact when you edit family the symbol does appear on the rcp view. I have been working around this by setting the type prop for componenet height to be above my cut plane, however then I have to go through all other drawings that show elevational info and hide categories for electrical stuff - what a pain!
Is there any way to set sybol and component heights to different levels within the family or some other setting I'm not thinking of?
thanks!

What electrical symbols, where / how are they hosted and at what height ?
Hosted to a linked architectural model ? Wall hosted or surface hosted or ceiling hosted.
Wall swithes, data drops, receptacles, exit lighting, ceiling lights, wall lights . . . . electrical place objects on pretty much every surface at every possible height. It's quite a chore (and somewhat challenging at times) to get them all showing how and where we like.
* Many electrical families have model line 'tails' or 'stems' built in as invisible lines. These tails can help 'cut' the family in a plan view within a specific view range. If the family (or tail) gets cut in the plan view then it will most like try to display unless other display overrides come into play.

I want switches and outlet componenet symbols to display on RCP so that I can use it as a comprehensive electrical plan, without having to make these components unrealistically high on the wall (or the cut plane for rcp strangely low). For a project with floor mounted outlets I would also want them to display on this type of electical plan but its not a priorety to figure that one out at the moment.
It seems like there should be a setting or input somehow in the family parameters for the component symbol visibility or ref plane height of the symbol or something. Or maybe something like an annotation crop which would be an additional visibility parameter in the RCP view settings?
Is there anyway to have my cake and eat it too?
Thanks,
a

Have you tried just using an underlay?
