Hello,

Short time reader, first time poster.. I started studying Revit end of November to complement my existing skills. The learning is self-guided and at your own pace.  I breezed through the step-by-step directions that the institute was able to give me, but beyond that I am on my own to continue my learning curve.  They recommended that I continue designing something I was already familiar with, which was my old profession: Designing and building highly custom sauna rooms (all over the United States).  I am myself in Europe now.

I am interested in learning to create fully parametric family objects that are realistic looking and can be adjusted in length and angle.  I would (eventually) have 2-3 bench profiles at 2 different depths for each, with the length and end angles remaining adjustable for each individual room.  I intend to keep selling and designing these rooms for my clients despite not getting to install them.

I have 2 tasks at hand but I want to cover the benches first.  I will have benches with either 2x2 or 2x4 tops, atop 1x3/2x3/2x4/4x2 frames/supports. I want to be able to have each board separate from each other, like they are when built, so that if I place light fixtures under the benches, the light would shine through the gaps (even in the rendering).  I also have Chief Architect X1 which I haven't touched in years, and one guy had done some amazing blocks and renders for saunas, but so far I haven't seen anything good in/Revit.

So this first bench profile is 2x4 ladder frame with 2x4 tops running the long-ways, with an 2x6 fascia. Boards are spaced 1/2" apart as well as from the wall.  Blocks of 1/2" x 1-1/2" x 3-1/2" where the ledger screws to the wall allows me to keep the 1/2" drain gap/ventilation/spacing gap against the wall. I would create different families for the various depths, like with this Upper Bench, it is 2'-2" from the wall to face; that shouldn't adjust in Project.. just the length and angle of end if it terminates at an angled wall or another bench in an angle.

I understand that as the bench grows or decreases in length, it will affect the number of blocks required underneath in the ladder frame, though they are secondary.  They do affect the lighting greatly, so I would love to see them work properly, but I do not know how to do it. Some kind of an array command to get blocks spaced 2'-0" apart underneath?  Support to the floor/lower bench is of little concern to me at this very moment.

Does anyone have good suggestions? The youtube videos run gamut from furniture to all kinds of other items, but this is a little unique, I think.  Also, some of the videos are hard to follow and with only one screen at school, difficult to utilize.  Also, since I am in Europe, I can't well walk into a bookstore and expect to find the/a Revit Bible, particularly in English (it is my third language but it was my primary language the last 17 years and all of my drafting experience is with it).

I am attaching a few files.. the bench in family as I have made it thus far; a floorplan of the sauna I wish to 'Revit'; and a wireframe isometric I made in Acad to try and show what is going on (before I got this far with RFA); as well as a picture of a room I built utilizing this construction style (which is what the next client wants, too).

Next step after the benches, should I ever master them, would be creating T&G paneled walls, horizontal and vertical, where the small V-groove was clearly visible.

Thanks for any help/guidance you can afford.
