This kind of information you can find on autodesk.com, just search for use portable license...
In short these are the steps
To transfer a license between the different systems:
Install software on all the systems that you want to include in the pool.
Obtain a machine identification code from the target computer (the computer that you are transferring the license to) and add the target computer to the pool.
Export the license from the source computer (the computer where the license is currently active).
Import the active license onto the target computer.

No, it doesn't work this way with a Network version. You have to be on a Network and 'check-out' the license to another machine.
The PLU is only for Stand-alone versions. Also, the first time you use the PLU, you will transfer a small text FILE it creates between the host computer and the remote computer. After this, you will then create a CODE, which you will then transfer (type in) between the computers.
By the way, beware if you forget to bring in the code the next day. You will be given a 'grace period' when you 'check out' the code. It will switch the program if you go beyond the grace period to Demo mode.
By the way, is the school aware you're intending to borrow the license? I just know some employers and institutions may be a bit finicky regarding this.
