hi all. using Revit 2013, i know there has to be a way to do this, i just haven't found it as of yet. if you make a wall type in a project, and want to add it to your company template, how can you transfer it? along the same lines, in some of the out of the box templates there are a lot more wall types than in others. for example the Mechanical Template has almost none. how can i transfer wall types from the Architectural Template to the Mechanical Template, or the one that i created for the company? i've already tried to make a 10' wall section with each wall type and then link the project. i copied/monitored the walls, and checked to copy the new wall type. but that still didn't allow me to use those wall types.

We maintain a library project of wall types.  These types are shown on a wall types sheet inthe library project.  Then to load into a curent project, we simply copy / paste the wall type legend and notes into our project onto it's wall type sheet view.

are you refering to your details? if not would you please give me more detail. i don't need to be able to show details, i just want it to take up the right amount of space, and look right. i'm working for a MEP firm. i have to make the buildings from OLD pdf's from 40 years ago, most of the time. then put in our stuff. i just don't want to have to make the wall from scratch every time i start. building a library as i go would be great, that's what i'm trying to do.

I think I was perfectly clear.  Copy/pasting the wall types legend also imports the wall types.

I understood the copy/paste part. i'm sorry that i don't know how to do a legend of 3d wall types. or any other 3d parts for that matter. i've had to use 2d drawings for the legend. i would like to know how to do a legend that had the components that i've used in the project.

New Legend > Component > Legend Component

This tool lets you create a legend from the 3-d objects you have in your projects. Very cool and handy. For other objects besides walls it is important to make sure their symbols look the way you want in a legend though.

But that should answer your question.

Your own HELP explains the process:

Creating a Legend

  1. Click View tabCreate panelLegends drop-down (Legend).
  2. In the New Legend View dialog, enter a name for the legend view and select the view scale.
  3. Click OK.

The legend view opens and is added to the Project Browser list.

  4. Add the desired element symbols to the view using any of the following methods:
    • Drag model and annotation family types from the Project Browser into the legend view. They display as view-specific symbols in the view.
    • Alternate method for adding model family symbols:
      1. Click Annotate tabDetail panelComponent drop-down (Legend Component).
      2. On the Options Bar, for Family, select a model family symbol type.
      3. Specify the view direction for the symbol.

Some symbols have more options than others. For example, wall types can be displayed in plan or section representations. Wall-hosted elements like doors can be represented in plan, and front and back elevations. If you are placing a hosted symbol, such as a door or window, the symbol displays with the host in plan representation. You can specify a value for the Host Length.

      4. Place the symbol in the view.

Obviously - everywall type has to have its own unique name - So placing them in a library project allows you to do this in a manner where you can easily pick the correct one.
