Hello,

I have a pretty complicated problem here... I think.

I am working on a big project that has an AutoCAD 'Xref' site attached to it. Over the past few months, a handful of other patrons have made small changes to the Xref from within Revit which poses a problem; I cannor reattach the Xref without overriding their changes.

So here's the main issue:

there is a Fence Line in AutoCAD that consists of a 'line and a box and a line and a box,' without spaces (kind of like this -o-o-o- well sort of). This creates a nice fence in PLAN view because the boxes symbolize the posts. Unfortunately this line exists only in AutoCAD. I have figured out how to create a Complex line similar to the AutoCAD version in REVIT but unfortunately I cannot use it. This is because that complex line is only useful in DRAWING on top of the Xref (I cannot update all existing fence lines in the Xref to that Complex Line family pattern within Revit).

Now I know I can turn off the original FENCE layer in the Xref and just draw over the existing fences but that would take forever.

I have tried to change the line style and line pattern through the settings by pressing 'V V' but that does not help. So I tried to create a new line pattern to override the Xref's line but unfortunately Revit allows only dashes, spaces, and dots. (no fancy boxes :[...)

Is there anyway I can upload my complex 'dash and box' line into the Line Pattern menu? This way when I choose to override the existing Fence line it will automatically update all the Xref fence lines in every drawing...

So far I have made little progress but learned some different tricks in Revit.

Thanks,

Jeff

We don't have these "lines" in revit but we do have line based detail components that can be modified to do what you want.  Try this one out.
