Using a standard window in Family Editor I added a brick sill and attempted to add a parameter that would allow me to vary the sills material once loaded into the project. The sill works well and adjusts to window width variations but I am unable to successfully add the material parameter. (Revit V . I have followed the Revit Help instructions and also a Scott Onstot Video but am unable to pinpoint where I am going wrong. If someone could give me a clear and accurate step by step guide it would be greatly appreciated.

in the family editor click on your element and go to properties,
under material and finishes you'll see "material" with a drop down box, to the right of this line there is a little box (do not click on the drop arrow, it is on the right of it)
click on the little box, a dialog box appears called "associate family parameter"
click "add parameter"
give it a name like "sill Material"
under "group prameter under" file it as a material and finishes
and tick "Instance"
load into your project, go to the properties and change the material to what ever you want.

that's cool
remember, you will need to change each and every window's material, or a handy way to put the same window once you changed it, is to right click on the window (in the project) and select "create similar"
