Hi all,
Just wondering if you can help as I’m pulling (what’s left of) my hair out …. I've attended the Essentials, Advanced and Family Creation Autodesk courses but I'm now on my own ... !
I’ve started to model a 'module' of a building I am working on.
I would like to be able to copy the lights and then subsequently the modules so I can easily create larger buildings. However, I keep getting an error message - Can't cut instance(s) of Cabin Light out of its host.
Can you help at all?! I've tried everything I can think of and would REALLY appreciate it.
I would attach a file but even when I trim it down to just a ceiling and light its just over 2mb.
Thanks so much,
Lee

If you are doing one light, then just right click on it and pick create similar.

Thanks so much for the reply.
This has worked for the creating lights within a module's ceiling, but when I try to copy the module itself using this method, I get the same error.
Any ideas?
Many thanks again,
Lee

You can create the ceiling the same way... by picking the ceiling at the edge and create similar. If you want to copy a ceiling and lights, then do that. You have to pick all of them. Then after placing, you can edit the ceiling if required.

I'm really sorry but this isn't working for me.
I have uploaded the file here if this is easier for you to see my problem. http://www.sendspace.com/file/95xeg3
I basically need to take the whole module and copy it over so that I can remove the long wall, and replicate each 'middle slice' so that I can create modular buildings of various lengths.
Does this make sense? Apologies if not.
Thanks again.

Try making it a "GROUP" and then copying it.

Hi Silana,
I've tried doign this also but it doesn't work either. I've no idea what I'm doing, and am now doubting whether it even can be done!
Thanks

I don't have any problems copying ceilings with lights alone or if they are included in a group. So if you are having problems, there is something else you have not told us.
I will not download from that site.
