I am pretty new to Revit and have been asked to produce the model attached. Is it possible to produce this and if so do you have an idea how. I was told to use adaptive components is this correct. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Does it have to be flexible? then maybe stick with an adaptive component, I don't really know how to use those.
If I were to do this, I would make each face it's own family and then load it into a new family and then copy the object around the face of an empty sphere. Start with a revolve to make the curved shape, next create a void extrusion to give the cut shape. in the example, i made the single family face based and just started adding them and the "main" object family. You'd have to figure out some of the geometry before hand.

Thanks ever so much for this advice is been very helpful.
I've got as far as creating the dome and the node object but am finding it difficult to creat a void extrusion of the two to make the curved shape. Any advice would be help massively.
Thanks

First change the shape into a void within its properties.
Next, open the extrusion shape and add a cirlce on the outside, the shape wiill maintain what's in the centre.
Next, cut the void out of the solid.

This object that you want to do is a dodecahedron. However, The strange thing in your sample picture there are only 2 of these elements touching each other at each vertex, instead of 3 objects meeting at the same point. That's what you have to figure out. If you can define the orientation of this object at each pentagon of the dodecahedron, you should be able to do it, using this workflow as a guide:
